K-9/Swan Lease Program
PROPOSED SWAN LEASE PROGRAM
Purpose:
To provide the maximum cost-effective solution to control your Canada Goose population, the answer is a pair of swans which will harass Canada Geese day in, day out. Eventually the birds grow tired of the swan's presence and then willingly find another place to live. Birds are not harmed or killed, they just move on. Swans are on the property 100% of the season, for use at all immediate presentations of geese. This allows for excellent continuous harassment, which is required to de-program the geese to move to more hospitable location.
Swans return to BBB in the off-season for winter layover. This also requires proof of liability insurance, specifying use of the swans.
Adequate nesting area as per specification/inspection of BBB. Nesting area may also be arranged/set up by BBB for an additional fee.
Facility Requirements:
Daily care and maintenance of the swans
- as specified by BBB
Veterinary Costs
Bye Bye Birdie Provides:
A pair of nesting swans
Food/supplies
Nesting area can be arranged at an additional expense
Ongoing support
Additional Program Support:
It is recommended to continue with an egg oiling program applied by BBB and one of their nest-detection dogs. BBB will supply and report to all permit requirements.
PROPOSED CANINE LEASE PROGRAM
Purpose:
To provide the maximum cost-effective solution to control your Canada Goose population. The answer is a trained Border Collie. They have a powerful, natural drive to herd. Our trained dogs, when properly handled, will herd birds day in, day out. Eventually the birds grow tired of the dog's presence and then willingly find another place to live. Birds are not harmed or killed, they just move on. Along with the laser to work at night with tests that have shown that repeated use will substantially reduce or eliminate nesting, requiring only occasional follow-up.
Benefits:
The leased dog is on the property 100% of the season, for use at all immediate presentations of geese. This allows for excellent continuous harassment, which is required to deprogram the geese to move to a more hospitable location.
Immediate replacement of dog due to incompatibility, injury, illness or work ethic.
Dog returns to BBB in the off-season for continuous training and care.
Facility Requirements:
-Proof of liability insurance, specifying use of dog.
-Adequate housing as per specification/inspection of BBB. (A kennel run, and indoor housing so as not to bother your clients). Housing may also be arranged/set up by BBB for an additional fee.
-Daily care and maintenance for the dog as specified by BBB.
-Two handlers to be trained through BBB on the use of the electric collar, worn by the dogs while working.
-Same two handlers to spend allotted time decided upon by BBB, with BBB to train in the working of the dog and the geese.
-Dog must work in a life jacket (supplied by BBB) while working designated ponds as per BBB.
